Translation Diary
Week Task Time Challenges
We created an account and learned how to do our translations. We started to work on the translation of Schwarzer Tod und Amikäfer. 90+ It was difficult to remember all the steps.
We finished our part of the first translation. 90+ We struggled with putting in references and links to other Wikipedia pages.
We started our translation of the article about Ruth Epting. 90+ It wasn't as easy as expected to find a good article to translate.
Holiday. We split the article in three parts and finished our translation at home by ourselves. 90+ We struggled to find accurate translations for some German words.
We read over what we translated at home and corrected the mistakes together. We then published our draft of the article. 90+ We did not always have the same opinions on which translation is the best, so agreeing on one was not always easy.
Phoebe, Oseas and I met at the UB and started our translation on the Betty Bradley article. In 2,5 hours, we finished the translation and proofread it together. 90+ There weren't any major problems.
We started working on our next article, which is about Cäsar Albano Kletke and proofread our translation on Ruth Epting again. 90+ We could not find a proper translation for the German words "Gymnasium" and "Realschule" due to differences in school systems. Therefore, we kept the German words.
We continued working on Cäsar Albano Kletke. Also, we added the English categories to the Ruth Epting article. 90+ We couldn't figure out how to publish our finished translation of the Ruth Epting article.
I added the categories to the Betty Bradley article and finished my part of the translation of Cäsar Albano Kletke. We proofread it together and continued working on Oseas' part together. 90+ Some German sentences were so long and confusing that we even had struggle to understand what is meant (and therefore to translate it). Example: "Zum überregionalen Ansehen von Kletke trug auch bei, dass das preußische Kultusministerium ihn 1845 mit einer Denkschrift über die Organisation der höheren Bürger- und Realschulen beauftragte."
After listening to the first presentation, we proofread all our three finished articles again. 90+ -
We met several times at the UB to prepare our presentation, which we held in this week's class. 90+ We had some mistakes in our presentation that we had to correct afterwards.
