              India is the seventh country in world with an area of 3287263 sq.km.it hasthe second largest population in the world ,with 1,027,015,257 people (2001 cesus),this gives an average density of per sq.(2001)

LOCATION

             Lying entirely in the northen hemispher,the main land extended between latitudes 8.4 and 37.6 north and logitude 68.7 and 97.25  east . It measures 3214 km . from north to south and 2933km.from east to west  between the extreme longitudes. It has a frontier of 152000 km . and a coast line of 7500 km.
             India is adjoined in the north by China ,Nepal and Bhutan . Algo in the east lies Bangladesh .In the north west Afganistan and Pakistan berder India. In the  south , India is seprated fro Sri Lanka by the Gulf of Mannar and the Palk Straits. The Andman and Nicobar  islands in the Bay of Bengal and Lakshadeep in the arabian sea are parts of the territory of India.

GEOGRAPHICAL CLASSIFICATION OF HIMALAYAS Great Inner Himalayas- Apreads out from Sindh river to Brahmputra river ,i.e.2500 km . out of 313 about 40 mountain peaks . Himalaya is the source of 23 rivers th e main rivers are Ganga , Sindhi and Brahmputra/ Less Himalayan Zone- Lying parallel to the south great Himalayan range . Width : 80 to 100 km . in th e lower part lies Simla . Mussourie , Nainital , Darjeeling etc.
