Tim is well known through out the southern California area for his recruiting, coaching, and leadership skill and this will strengthen Head Coach Dieter Horton already strong staff.
Personal Life
Atkerson is a 1988 graduate of Rosamond High School, he was named All-League in basketball and baseball. He was the founder of the HDMBCA and the High Desert Basketball Camp. Atkerson and his wife of eight years, Amy, have three children -- Micha (12) and Madison (10) and Mackenzie (8). He has an uncle who was an assistant coach at Duke University under Mike Krzyzewski.
Education
He received his bachelor’s in secondary education (math emphasis) from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and his master’s in education (physical education emphasis) from Azusa Pacific University.
Championships
Won 8 league championships. League record is 85-17 (.833). Advanced to the play-offs nine times and reached the Final Four, 2 CIF Championship games with a CIF Championship Title in 2008. Averaged 18 wins a year while at Rosamond High School going 180-66 during the ten years. Has previously served as an Athletic Director for 2 years and has held numerous leadership positions and overall coaching record, seven conference titles including the last five straight seasons.
Early Career 1995-2008
Spent 10 years as the head coach at Rosamond High School. The Roadrunners went undefeated in the High Desert League in 1999-2000, earning a berth in the CIF Division IV AA Final Four apperance, the team in 2006-07 was CIF finalists and in 2007-08 won the CIF Championship.
Later Career 2008-
Atkerson was named CIF Coach of the Year in 2008 and has been named Conference Coach of the Year six times. Tim Atkerson returns to the Marauder Men's Basketball Bench for the second time, spending a thee year stint from 2000 to 2004. In those three years the Marauders under the guidance of Newton Chelette won two conference titles and advanced to state. League record is 85-17 (.833).
