"Don't go left at the crossroads", officially titled "Searching For A World That Doesn't Exist", is a Minecraft video on YouTube by a channel called "Wifies" which has been described as an alternate reality game. It depicts the story of a Minecraft player finding a cave which leads to a man-made underground universe, which is likely linked to the book series The King in Yellow.

Plot

The story seemingly begins in a video with a character named AveryTheMayo finding a book in a mineshaft which they "did not create". The book reads "Whatever you do at the crossroads, don't turn left. Don't be fooled - it's listening. You can't outsmart it. It's listening to me. It's watching me. It isn't from this world." Then there are two pages just saying "Whatever you do at the crossroads, DON'T turn left." Finally, the last page contains a sequence of numbers which Avery shows to his YouTube audience in hopes that one of them will decrypt it. According to Avery's description, he found the laptop (and in turn, Minecraft world) in a storage locker with Minecraft already installed on it, which seemingly explains why there has already been activity on this world.

Avery's video ends there, but in the last few frames of the video, a selection of blocks appears in his Minecraft inventory. The specific arrangement of blocks is a cipher for a Google Drive link. Viewers can decrypt the link and open a Drive folder, containing three items. There are two videos of a player's Minecraft footage and a text document summarising what the footage showed. It claimed that the Minecraft world came "pre-created" after downloading Minecraft - which is different to what Avery said (Avery said "Minecraft already installed, while this says world came pre-created upon installation. This leads the viewer to believe

The player in the footage (who one would assume to be Avery at this point.) begins to start a new mining trip into the walls. Upon starting this mine, they find a cave containing trees and moss, which should not be able to grow underground. They follow this strange cave, with it becoming increasingly engulfed in greenery, and eventually opening out into a huge cavern containing robotic-looking trees and a significant of grass, all still underground. (The player shows the viewer their confusion about the abnormal terrain by typing to them in the game chatting function.)

Baffled, they decide that the only way to get answers about why their world is like this is to continue onwards. They find a small tunnel in the walls of the cavern, which appears to just be an ordinary passageway, until he realises that the torches lighting it up are unnaturally going off. He types in chat "I'm not scared of torches turning off", which they then follows by saying "I don't know what kind of practical joke this is, but I already heard you in the cave." This is true - footsteps could be heard very quietly as they made their way into the tree cavern. Naturally, the player runs down the tunnel and jumps into a pool of water, swimming to escape the "strange happenings." Afterwards he tells the viewers that he doesn't know why he jumped, but claims that he felt "compelled to".
