Moved back to the real world.

I left Wikipedia because I do not agree with the way it is run. Someone put a tag on here saying that I "retired", which is untrue.

Wikipedia is not "the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit". It blocks entire ranges of shared IPs, even those of academic institutions and libraries. It also favours the viewpoints of the rich and powerful. Go and look up the articles on various billionaires and NGOs and you will see puff pieces.

The administrative structure favours those who have a lot of time on their hands. And that's a kind way of putting it. Wikipedia has idiosyncratic rules and jargon, which change constantly, and which ordinary users are supposed to follow. Most of these are discussed in obscure corners of this website that most users have never heard of.

I was naive enough to think that it was a good idea to set up a named account. The website and the administrators kept on encouraging me to do so. I played along for a number of years. While I had pleasant interactions with a number of users, I found that I was wasting a lot of time on here with users who had little interest and/or understanding of the content I was involved in. Having a user name also meant that some individuals focussed more on me as a personality than the quality of the content I had written.

Lastly, Wikipedia has been built up using unpaid labour but is being monetised by various corporations and now AI bots. It is used by AI to put people out of work in publishing and the creative industries.
