In the real world, mrdougan (AKA Andrew John Clemitson BSc (HONS) MCOptom) is a fully qualified optometrist (or ophthalmic optician), qualifying two and a half years ago, from Cardiff University’s “Department of Optometry & Vision Sciences”. Currently employed by a small multiple/independent style practise(s) (many shops, each with one maintaining an independent-esque style of operation). Many wish / aim for a simple & straight forward life, being an optometrist is rarely that. As such some of the more “noteworthy” points have been complied into “Rantings of an Optometrist”

What’s in a name?

Well which name?

  • Clemitson - After much genealogy research, it was discovered that in the Sixteenth / Seventeenth century, the son of Archer Clementson, grand-son of Clement (hence Clementson), couldn’t accurately spell his family name and hence forth his branch of the tree continued with the spelling of Clemitson.
  • mrdougan – This name is a derivative of an one alias used by the assassin called “the Jackal” (in the film Day of the Jackal), (which was taken from the tombstone of “Paul Oliver Duggan”, a child born approximately the same time as the Jackal, but died in childhood). It has also been used as a bit character in the [www.marvel.com Marvel] Ultimate-universe series.
  • Squatty_Bear – The now retired gaming alias, stems from my days in Half-Life 2 Death-Match, and is based on a derivative of the sniper ace "Squatting Bear” (a fictional character from Fire Team Charlie, a halo-based machinima production)
  • the_idoc – The active “gaming alias” employed by mrdougan, stems from brief discussion with then fellow guild member "Waagnba" on the subject of leet speak, which resulted in the expression ”i docs r nt L33T enuf” Link

Where’s My Gun? Films

“Where’s My Gun? Films” started as a one-off piece for my Hastati project, in a comical attempt to dissuade people from using pirated films. After discovering how (relatively) easy it was to edit & direct this one video, other ideas came to mind. Being an optometrist two semi-pertinent issue sprung to mind (the “Possible ramifications of Contact Lenses sales by Supermarkets”, & the “Need for Sight Testing?” - both films temporarily M.I.A.).

Eternal Vigilance
