Rui Xu is a fashion designer, contemporary artist, and academic. She is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and the China Fashion Association. Since receiving the UK Exceptional Talent visa in 2016, Xu has focused on ecological fashion through her studio, Ruixu Studio. From 2004 to 2016, she served as Associate Professor and Director of Fashion at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, and studied at the Royal College of Art from 2014 to 2015.

Xu has held solo exhibitions at Christie's, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Saatchi Gallery, the Zaha Hadid Design Gallery, and the Royal College of Art (Upper Gulbenkian Gallery), as well as with Elephant Family and at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Her work has also been presented at Aalto University (Finland), the University of Michigan and the University of California (United States), the Ferrand Museum (France), and the 60th Miss World in China.

Her book, *Xiang Wang Yi*, has received several international accolades, including the Red Dot Design Award (Germany, 2013), the Gold Award at the Design for Asia Awards (Hong Kong, 2013), the Most Beautiful Book in China (2012), the Outstanding Design Annual Award of the Tokyo Type Directors Club (Japan, 2011), and the Silver Award at the 11th National Fine Arts Exhibition (China, 2009). Xu’s works are held in the permanent collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, Clarence House, the China National Silk Museum, and the private collection of the late Zaha Hadid.

Career

Xu began her teaching career at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), where she served as Associate Professor and Director of Fashion from 2004 to 2016. In parallel with her academic work, she developed her own design practice, focusing on the intersection of fashion, contemporary art, and ecology. After moving to the UK in 2016 under the Exceptional Talent visa scheme, she founded Ruixu Studio to further her research and design in sustainable fashion.
