Lucas Lightning was born in Coupon, Pennsylvania in March of 1982. Lightning was known as an indie-rock guitarist and singer who wrote and recorded a one-hit wonder in his song "As Fast As Lightning." He was involved in a scandal at the 2001 Grammy awards and interest in his music subsequently took a nosedive. Lucas then retired in 2003 and began a new career in Philadelphia as a baker. Baked With Lightning is now one of the most popular stops in the "Old City" area of Philadelphia.

Lightning was born in Coupon, Pennsylvania to his mother Annabelle and father Jerry. His parents were but humble carny-folk with his mother being the bearded lady and father being the man who ran the classic "see-if-you-can-get-the-wheel-on-the-milk-bottle" game. They settled in Coupon after becoming disenfranchised with the traveling fair and proceeded to work as dairy farmers in the small town of less than 100 people. Lucas took an interest in singing and guitar after watching the only VHS movie they had (Meet Me In St. Louis) and was rewarded with all his hard watching with a guitar when he was 11. He constantly performed for the people of Coupon and impressed many with his charisma and bravado, even at such a young age. He eventually took leave of the family farm and traveled around playing small honkytonks and bars until he came across his big break in Nashville, Tennessee.

Lightning was signed by Greasy Smile Records after just one viewing of the song "As Fast As Lightning". The record was pushed heavily into rotation and was a hit across the U.S. and U.K. while charting simultaneously in over 3 dozen countries worldwide. Lightning used his fame to speak and donate to many causes he viewed as important, such as the stigma that many fair-folk face as downtrodden hillbillies and he also donated and advocated heavily for the Milk Farmers of America organization. Lightning also released his first album at this time "When Lightning Strikes" and, while it didn't match the level of popularity he had garnered with "As Fast As Lightning," it did sell moderately well, climbing to number 7 on the Billboard Top 200.

Lightning was at the heart of 2001 Grammy Scandal when during his acceptance speech for the 2001 Best New Artist Grammy he thanked Al Gore for warning everyone about global warming and claimed, "If it wasn't for him we'd be all melting or something." The backlash was immediate and Lightning was labeled as a buffoon and a backwards hillbilly. Many at the time took his rise to fame as a complete sham and claimed he was a "backwards, illiterate, redneck, hillbilly." While Lightning never denied these claims, the backlash and criticism that followed the Grammy's completely derailed his musical career. The view that only uneducated and dumb people listened to his music proved to be too damning to overcome. Lightning tried to comeback in 2002 with the album "Lightning Never Strikes Twice" but it was met with harsh reviews and even harsher sells. Lightning realized it was time to call it quits and in an interview with Spin Magazine in December of 2002 he claims that he, "Is gonna go back to where his roots are to do something he should have done a long time ago." That something was opening up his very own commercial bakery.

Lightning currently lives in Philadelphia where he has opened his own successful commercial bakery, "Baked With Lightning." He continues to play the occasional benefit and tribute show when asked and loves his baking business. VICE found him in 2014 and when interviewed he was "incredibly excited and showed visible signs of giddiness." When asked if he had any regrets he replied, "None, except for maybe living just a little too hard."
