A time when I learned to like something
(This was written and posted as an assignment for an English 102 class in which I am enrolled)
Since the moment I took a step I was only ever a sprinter, never a runner. I sprinted during sports and I ran when I had to, for training and in game purposes. Running was boring, it slowed down time and took discipline and motivation that I could not come up with no matter how clever my self-manipulation techniques were employed. Even running with a partner failed to be the push I needed. It made the activity less enjoyable to run next to someone I was not competing with, because our paces always differed and left someone feeling left behind and the other frustrated when they were prevented from running to their full potential. This changed when I adopted an energetic shepherd-husky mix.
Despite the trials of training, we discovered that we are the perfect partners for running. I am much slower than he, but my dog is rather considerate and happy to go any pace I choose. He motivates me to get outside and is a delightful distraction during runs. Each time we run I feel more connected with him and learn to like running that much more.
