Aaronsohnia factorovskyi (Hebrew: אַהֲרוֹנְסוֹנְיַת פַקְטוֹרִי), also known as Faktorowsky's Aaronsonia,[1] is a member of the daisy family Asteraceae and is found from central Israel to Iraq and the Arabian Peninsula. The bulb part tastes like chestnuts when cooked.[2]
Description
The name Aaronsohnia factorovskyi is named after the botanists Aaron Aaronsohn and his colleague Eliezer Faktorovsky. However, the plant was actually discovered by Alexander Eig[1] in 1927.[3]
A. factorovskyi is found from central Israel to Iraq and the Arabian Peninsula,[2] and in the Judean Desert, the Samaria region, and certain parts of Jordan.[1]
An annual plant, from late October to early April, the plant grows its foliage, and from early to mid-January, the plant blooms. Its fruit, being two achenes, starts growing in late February and is ripened in early April, which leads to seed dispersal later. It grows in soil with both a high and low salinity content. The more water the plant receives, the more inflorescence is found on it,[1] and during heavy rain in wadis, the A. factorovskyi thrives.[4][5] Yellow inflorescenses contain many tubular flowers, which are supported by long peduncles,[1] and the bulb part tastes like chestnuts when cooked.[6] Its pollen grains were found to be roughly spherical.[7]
A. factorovskyi is known to have medicinal properties, and was often used by the residents of the Showbak region in Jordan.[8] The extract from the plant, combined with silver nanoparticles, was found to be antibacterial.[9]

Abacarus sacchari, also known as the sugarcane rust mite, is an agricultural pest mite found mostly on sugarcane plantations in Africa, Brazil, India, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Venezuela,[1] and southern Florida.[2]
Description
Although it had been known about for decades prior to its discovery, though many specifics about the pathogen were unknown, the sugarcane rust mite was first discovered in the Everglades Agricultural Area, Florida, in 1982 and was rediscovered in 2007.[2] The length of time until rediscovery may have been due to the mite's microscopic size, which made it easily confused with other diseases.[3] It was also found in West Bengal, mostly affecting untreated plants in early August.[4] Unconfirmed reports of the mite have been made in Australia as well.[5]
The onset of the mite is first visible in April, and it reaches its peak in August or September. When a plant is infected, it loses its green coloring and starts to obtain reddish-brown specks on the sugarcane leaf's primary vein. This is due to the mite's attack on the sugarcane's chlorophyll, as well as interfering with the sugarcane's photosynthesis, transpiration, and amount of stomatal conductance.[2] The mites then continue to multiply on the plant's leaves.[6] The severity of the mite's infection depends on the species of sugarcane it is infecting.[7] The effect of it has been confused with the Pokka Boeng fungus.[6]
Because sugarcane plantations are often burned to make room for the next harvest, the rust mite must spread over long distances to ensure its survival. To move long distances, it relies on wind, although where the mites land is often dictated by chance. Out of the amount of mites found airborne, most were female.[2]

Acacia porcata is a species of wattle found only in one location in Central Queensland.[1] It is an endangered species.[2]
Description
A. porcata is endemic to the Mundubbera Shire, Beeron National Park,[3][4] and it grows in mountainous regions with lots of direct sunlight, as well as growing in eucalypt woodlands, provided its access to sunlight is not blocked by other plants. The plant is often found on granite substrate, as well as on soils with low acidity and high organic content.[4] The area where it was located previously hosted many grazing animals, but was gradually taken over by eucalyptus plants.[3]
It grows up to 0.5 metres (1.6 ft) tall, with resin and hairs covering its branches. Its phyllodes are olive-green, sticky, cylindrical, and covered in white hairs. Flowers that germinate come in clusters of 35 to 40 yellow round flowers. Its closest relative is Acacia longipedunculata.[4]
The plant grows during the dry season.[5] From August to late September, the flowers of the plant bloom, which grows sticky black seeds covered in a white aril from November to December.[4] The seeds grow in pods.[6] Most seeds drop close to the parent plant, but the aril has been known to entice ants to disperse the seeds elsewhere. Left undisturbed, its average lifespan is 10 years.[4]
A. porcata is an endangered species, declared so after the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, due to fires killing it (since it cannot regenerate after fires), invasive species, and inbreeding depression from its small population.[4][3] In 2001, nine groups of A. porcata growths were found in the region, with a total population of 1177.[7]
The plant was first described in 1990 by Paul Irwin Forster.[6]
