User:Remotelysensed

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and attended the University of California at Berkeley (except for one year at Göttingen University), graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in German. I have lived in Germany since 1972. For 14 years I worked at the headquarters of the United Bible Societies in Stuttgart, during which time I was able to learn a great deal about the theory and practice of translation from extraordinarily competent and rigorous translators, linguists and stylists. I also gained many of years of practical experience in soliciting information from, and writing and editing texts for, people in developing countries worldwide with English as a second language.

I then worked for 18 years for the German Aerospace Center DLR in Stuttgart and Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich, where much of my work consisted in translating and editing texts first on the subjects of renewable energies and hydrogen as an energy carrier, and then on earth observation applications for satellite remote sensing.

I have also undertaken private translation and editing work for a number of authors; book titles include Advanced Aerospace Materials, Observation of the Earth and its Environment, Utilization of Space, Space Applications and Policies for the New Century and Handbook of Space Technology.

I am now retired and living in Berlin, and am ready to dedicate some of my time, interest and energy to translating German Wikipedia articles into English, as requested or considered appropriate.
