Derek VanLuchene founded Ryan United in 2003 in memory of his brother, Ryan, who was abducted and murdered by a repeat sexual predator in 1987. Since that time, Derek has invested himself in response to this tragedy, spending 18 years in local and state law enforcement, providing national and international training to Criminal Justice Professionals and Child Safety Advocates, and has been responsible for key legislation regarding sex offender management in the State of Montana and abroad.
As a consultant, Derek works with the National AMBER Alert Initiative, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Programs, the Innocent Justice Foundation, and with DOJ’s Office of Sex Offender Sentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering and Tracking (SMART) Office developing and delivering training across the country. Derek is also a Team Adam Consultant for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children helping communities during child abductions.
As the host of Ryan United Today, Derek provides information through the NBC Affiliate regarding various issues regarding child and community safety. Through this medium, Derek has an unlimited reach with the videos also posted on Beartooth NBC’s YouTube channel.
When working with the State of Montana and the City of Conrad Police Department, Derek was recognized for his abilities to handle complex investigations involving multiple agencies, for being a successful interviewer and interrogator. Derek is also a recognized leader in the realm of Law Enforcement Training Standards in the State of Montana and around the United States.
As a dedicated husband and father of 5, a law enforcement professional, a trainer of criminal justice professionals, a supporter of sex offender legislation, and as Ryan’s brother, Derek has devoted his life to making a difference in the fight to keep children safe and to ensure that child predators are prosecuted and monitored property.
Derek is regarded nationally as the expert on all issues surrounding sex offender management and child abduction
