Florida International University Online

Florida International University Online (also known as FIU Online) is the central, university-wide academic unit offering online courses for degree and certificate programs at Florida International University (FIU), an American public university in Miami, Florida. Since 1998, FIU Online has provided online education and currently offers accredited online courses, undergraduate degrees, graduate degrees, certificates, non-Florida resident programs, continuing education, and professional development in a variety of disciplines.

FIU Online offers students the option of earning a complete degree or certificate online or simply completing a few online classes alongside on-campus classes towards traditional degree and certificate programs. The same high-quality education found by physically attending FIU on-campus classes is found in all FIU Online classes. FIU Online uses tools and resources which keep online classes up-to-date and highly interactive and engaging.

Degree and certificate classes offered at FIU Online are all instructed by FIU faculty, ninety-eight percent of whom hold doctorates or the highest degree attainable in their field. Through interactive tools and resources, students have just as much, if not more interaction, with professors in online classes as students in on-campus classes.

Continuing education and professional development classes offered at FIU Online are instructed by top subject matter experts and help professionals keep up-to-date with industry trends and requirements.

Customer service is available for students enrolled in FIU Online classes, with assistance in technical, admissions, and registration issues. A complete team of FIU Online staff is accessible to students online and in-person through extensive service hours.

FIU was established in 1965 and is one of the eleven universities of the State University System of Florida of the Florida Board of Governors. FIU is a public research university accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and is home to 13 colleges offering certificate, associates, bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees. In September of 1972, on the opening day of FIU, the university began with 5,667 students. Today, FIU enrolls 46,000 students.

FIU Online first introduced online education at FIU in 1998. The College of Business Administration was the leader in introducing online education at FIU, but today all FIU colleges and schools have online education components and offer distance education across all disciplines.

FIU Online is a unit within University College, one of the 13 colleges within FIU. FIU Online is currently administered by Dr. Joyce J. Elam, Dean of University College, and Joseph Riquelme, Director of FIU Online.
