User:Seahawk01/IRC
I suggest we form a consensus and then do a WP:Edit requests.
I'd like to see the following:
- make clear IRC is not official help but run by volunteers
- state "new users should read guide and having understanding before joining"
- link to WP:IRC for new user guide
- state Wikipedia's core principles
- reaching consensus through discussion
- highlight how Wikipedia and IRC differ
- different time frames
- Wikipedia discussions can take days or weeks
- IRC discussions take seconds or minutes
- Wikipedia everything documented while IRC has no records
- different time frames
- new user guide (at top of page)
- remind help channel is not official
- remind all members should have equal say
- remind some members have more mastery of WP rules
- warn don't let users WP:LAWYER you - ask to explain if you don't understand
- warn mods should not take unilateral action
- in case of disagreement, ask to post to article or user Talk page
- remind user must also compromise
- remind of Wikipedia:Teahouse
- admin guide
- remind avoid powertripping - should not spend majority of time doing admin stuff
- remind no ganging up - WP time vs IRC time (see above)
- prefer not to take direct action on Wikipedia from IRC
- start discussions on Talk pages instead
- process sometimes takes days, weeks - give other users time to reply on Wikipedia
- avoid WP:LAWYER
- all requests to post on Talk page should be honored
- process for making on-wiki changes
- fully document on Talk pages
- tag "IRC" in summary
- posting on other users pages after on-wiki action
- don't drive-by tag...take time to summerize in your own words
- be willing to respond to pings and engage in conversation
