Berlin-Skate-Marathon
The Berlin-Marathon was the first Marathon which integrated a Skater-Marathon in a big City Marathon. Since 2000 the race has been a part of the World Inline Cup (WIC), it is the biggest and the most famous run of the world. Since 2004 it is the final of the WIC. The first champion was Pascal Briand with a time of 01:07:52h. The woman Carolin Jean was the first champion of the women’s race with a time of 01:15:30h. They are both from France. In 1999 Anne Titze was the first woman who did the marathon in less than 01:10:00h. In 2000, 6700 competitors started and Angèle Vaudan won the women’s race with a new best time (01:08:29h) In 2002 there were 8300 competitors and it was a big event, because of that since 2003 it has been an event of its own on Saturday. With 9612 competitors it was the biggest Skate marathon in the world. 3 women of the USA won the women’s race. For the German speed skaters the Berlin-Marathon is the most important and the biggest race in Germany.
