User:SharedIPArchiveBot

This bot exists to regularly archive the talk pages of shared and dynamic IP addresses. Written by Petrb and designed with help of Maryana and Steven (from the Wikimedia Foundation), it does this in order to archive old warnings and notifications on behalf of IP editors from shared addresses, who normally are unable to request this for themselves.

Important: This bot is currently only running as a two-month trial for its approved request, per the consensus on VPR. This bot will archive old talk page threads for those in Category:Wikipedia user talk pages of shared IP addresses with messages older than two weeks, unless there is a current block notice. The bot will wait 14 days after a block notice is expired to archive any page with such threads.

This bot task, described above, is an experiment, not a permanent change to the system. It will only archive half of the talk pages in the category for two months, and by working with WP:UWTEST, we will analyze whether archiving regularly on behalf of shared IPs has a positive or negative impact on their editing patterns. If you notice any technical errors in the archiving process, please contact Petrb. If you have general concerns about the bot's task, please contact Maryana or Steven Walling.

  • If the bot is malfunctioning, there is a kill switch.
