Wiki markup
Headings
The first heading comes after the introduction.
Headings are capitalised like sentences (rather than titles.) Proper nouns in headings are, of course, capitalised.
Paragraphs
A new line does not affect the layout of an article. A new line can be used to separate the sentences of an article and aids editing.
A blank line starts a new paragraph.
Lists
Use stars (asterisk) to make a list:
- list
- list
- list
- sub-list
- sub-list
- list
Use hashes to make a numbered list:
- list
- list
- sub-list
- sub-list
- sub-list
Emphasis
Use double, triple or quintuple apostrophes to emphasise text.
It is convention to bold the subject of an article when the subject first appears in the article.
It is convention to italicise books, movies and games. If the subject of an article is a book, movie or game: use bold italics when the subject is first mentioned in the article.
Links and URL
Use double square brackets to make a link to a Wikipedia article: tank.
Use shift backslash to make a piped link where the text displayed in the article is different to the title of the link: MBT.
Endings are blended into the link; this is preferred to piped links: tanks.
Use square brackets to make a link to an external source: Nupedia. An unnamed link is only used within the article body for footnotes: [1] It is convention to list unnamed links in the references.
