Biography

Timothy James Moxey (born 27th May, 1985 in Sydney) is an Australian singer-songwriter.

Tim grew up singing in church, and was exposed to music from a young age. Once his high school music teachers realised he could sing, Tim quickly moved from backstage crew to lead male in his school musicals, where he performed the role of Jean Val Jean in Les Miserables.

After completing high school, Tim went on to study music at Wesley Institute, where he became the contemporary male soloist with the Wesley Institute Choir. In 2008 Tim completed his Bachelor of Music with Central Queensland University, graduating with Distinction. He has studied with some of Australia’s finest vocal teachers, including Leigh McRae, Kristin Berardi, Justine Bradley, Mark Williams and Patricia Oertel.

In 2010 Tim was fortunate enough to receive an ArtStart grant from the Australia Council for the Arts to further his professional development, and in 2012 he released his debut album, Stargazing, with Australian piano legend Mark Isaacs. Stargazing raises funds for maternal health care in remote Nepal, supporting projects that ensure women have access to medical care during pregnancy and labour. This wonderful work makes a huge difference and saves lives.

Until recently Tim worked part-time as a music pastor, but he has reluctantly resigned to focus more on his singing school. Tim now works as a singer and singing teacher. Click here for Tim's singing school, Sydney Vocal Academy.

Tim has also more recently discovered a love for musical theatre and has performed in a number of amateur musicals, including Seussical, Little Women and Songs for a New World. Tim also enjoys listening to a wide variety of music, from musical theatre to hip hop, classic funk and Motown to current top 40 songs.

In April 2013 Timothy was given a place on Team Seal for the second Australian series of The Voice. Performing brilliantly and winning many new fans, he was knocked out in the Battle Rounds. Timothy now has a busy schedule of teaching, performing and speaking around Sydney.

Tim is married with two young sons.
