Danielle Dean (born July 3, 1982) is an is a multimedia visual artist born in Alabama, and raised in London.[1] She creates videos and installations that include household items and feature family and friends as actors. Through her global perspective, her works navigate the colonialism of mind & body and provide observational insights on American Culture.
Early life and education
Dean was born in Huntsville, Alabama to an British mother and a Nigerian father. After her parents separated, Dean was raised by her mother in a working class neighborhood in Northwest London.[2]She obtained her Bachelors of Fine Arts from Central Saint Martins in London and her Masters of Fine Arts from California Institute of the Arts. In 2013, she was selected to participate in The Whitney Museum of American Art: Independent Study Program [1].[3]
Career and work
In 2014, Dean was one of thirty-five Los Angeles based artists participating at the Hammer Museum's biennial exhibition series Made in L.A.[4]
