The Snow Thrower

The snow thrower was invented twice once as a “Railway Screw Snow Excavator” and again as the snow blower or snow thrower we know today. In 1870 a man named Robert Harris invented a machine to clear snow off railways, the railway screw snow excavator. In 1925 a man named Arthur Sicard came up with a more practical version that set it apart from its older counter-part.

After completing his Sicard Snow Remover Snow blower he sold his first few products to a town, Outremount just outside of Montreal in 1927. His original product would have been a four-wheel drive truck with a separate motor for a snow blower in the front that allowed the operator to throw snow up to 90 feet.  Along with his new invention Arthur also founded a business, Sicard Industries that is now owned by SMI-Snowblast Inc. There also would be a market for snow blower, repairs, parts, and multiple company’s putting out different models.

In a country with snow for half the year it doesn’t take a genius to come up with the idea that people who live in a country with a lot of snow don’t want to shovel so he came up with a more practical way of removing snow. That is why someone would speculate that this would be a successful invention.

If there would be a lesson that someone could take from these events is that it isn’t that hard to make a huge invention or innovation like the snow thrower. The key would be to find something that could improve everyone’s life and make it. The idea may not be as easy to come across like the snow thrower but if you put enough gumption into it and really work at it, it can be done.

After this invention people in Canada and northern U.S as well as Europe would now have an easier alternative to shoveling their driveways. Clearing their sidewalks could now and can now easily remove snow with the help of a snow thrower. It also has many health benefits such as less time spent out in the cold and less people having heart attacks caused by shoveling their driveways.

From its begging as a railway-clearing device to the more practical machine most people have in their garages now. The snow thrower is a pretty important invention to most people in the Northern Hemisphere we would be in a very different world where more people would be shoveling their driveways then now. A man who decided to go for it, and make something useful made a lot of money and invented a useful device that helps us with our everyday lives a lot, in the winter.
