Galaxy of Comics is a comic book store in Van Nuys, Los Angeles, California.

History

The store's owner, Warren Jaycox, opened Galaxy of Comics, affectionately called the GoC, on the corner of Saticoy and Louise in Van Nuys in 2008. "Because we had a life size Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer Theater Display, I thought the shop's name should have something to do with a Universe or Galaxy. So, Galaxy of Comics was born," Jaycox said. As a former employee of Barnes and Noble, he had dreamed of founding a book store, but after rekindling his love of comic books in the early 2000s, that passion transferred to the direct market. After a few years with another comic book concern, Jaycox founded the store, with two employees, in December of 2008. Wolverine creator Len Wein was the store's first guest signing in March of 2009, set to coincide with the release of the Watchmen (film), since he was the original book's editor. Wein would go on to sign many more times over the years before his passing in 2007.

In August 2020, the shop doubled in size after taking over the space next door and expanding.

The GoC has been featured in many film projects, including the upcoming film Rocky's Galaxy, starring Michael Paré. In addition, the GoC had its own podcast, called the Galaxy of Comments, that was filmed between 2013 and 2018, and quite a few YouTube videos, like Comic High and Delectable Collectibles.

In addition to Len Wein, The Galaxy of Comics has hosted many big name Comic Book creators in its 14 years, including Howard Chaykin, Nick Spencer, Tone Rodriguez, Chris Wyatt, Novelist Lisa Yee, Richard Starkings, Adam Glass, Joshua Dysart, Gerry Duggan (writer), Joe Benitez, Jeff Loveness, Christina Strain, Bryan Edward Hill, and John Semper.
