Hi, I removed your "unreferenced" banner from "Under the Bridge" because generally uncited track listings have been acceptable and passed muster at WP:FAC unless there is something disputed or controversial that's being challenged. Well I'm not so sure, that's why I'm discussing it with you. I'm just saying that many album and song articles have passed at WP:FAC with unsourced track lists, meaning multiple reviewers have found it acceptable. See Intimacy (Bloc Party album) for example. I don't see the purpose of requesting sources for a track list unless something is disputed. Perhaps we should open a discussion at WT:ALBUMS? Hi @PatTheMoron:. Personally, I'd generally say it's fine. But it's not really an obvious things. While working on a few of the old Italian gothic horror films, I've come across so many films that have information that is not correct from the film posters, or even the film credits. Specifically, I Vampiri credits a screenwriter who does not exist. The Blancheville Monster credits a screenwriter who had nothing to do with the script. Terror-Creatures from the Grave credits different people as director. The list goes on. As the production history of these films are often very dodgy and fly-by-night, I think it's best to get specific sources. Distributor isn't usually that important of a deal for the infobox, it'd probably be better to either dig out a source, or find other ways to improve the article. I'm open to hear your thoughts on the topic though, so don't be hesistant to discuss further. :) Andrzejbanas (talk) 01:54, 17 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I did find one issue. In the development section this appears: "…but production ended when Holt became sick on set and was replaced by Gilbert Roland." Originally the text said "Halt" not "Holt" which I assumed was a typo so I made the change to "Holt". If this is the case, do you know if Gilbert Roland was brought in as director or to play a role in the film? The sentence says he was the director but as far as I can tell he was an actor. There's no mention of directing in his WP bio. This needs to be clarified.

It would appear that one of the casting sources used on The Great Silence was indeed self-published. Because there are still disputes as to who played who (I am certain that some of the cast details laid out by Hughes are incorrect), I have simplified the cast list and sourcing so that only cast members and characters who have been clearly identified across both official and unofficial sources are used. In that book, I've discovered that there are some typographical errors in staff names such as Tsutomo Shibayama, which is a misspelling of Tsutomu Shibayama, as well as Takeshi Shudo, which is also misspelled as Tsuyoshi in the book. Okay! I got a source of his explanation that I will transcribe here @Sjones23: "Every effort has been made to provide the correct readings of Japanese names, a task even ordinary Japanese citizens struggle with daily. For example, the cinematographer Askazu Nakai is frequently billed as "Asaichi Nakai", because his name can be read that way also. In many cases the only way to determine someone's name is to ask them (or their immediate family and friends) directly. Generally, we have opted to "take our best shot" rather than no include the name at all. In a few instances we have chosen to include alternate readings in brackets. For example, the cult character actor Hideyo Amamoto himself went by the name of "Hideyo" by two of his most frequent collaborators Kihachi Okamoto and Jun Fukuda - but other swear that Amamoto himself went by the name of "Eisei", another reading of those Kanji characters. In recent years it has become fashionable for Japanese actors to go by single names a la Capucine, Cantinflas, etc.: Koyuki, Magy, Bengal as well as singularly unconventional stage names (YosiYosi Arakawa, Yusuke Santamaria, etc.)" As for how he got these names, Galbraith states that "The credits compiled for this book have come from a variety of sources, including Japanese reference books, press materials, newspaper and trade reviews, and from the onscreen credits of the film themselves". You recently reverted an edit I made to List of French films of 1973, claiming it was unsourced. The films was sourced by it's own Wiki page, which is generally acceptable.

I've seen many other things say differently. Where did you learn the rule for this? This is just for my personal clarification because I was conflicted whether to revert you or not so asked first. I've also seen both a studio albums chronology and a official be listed on an article before.

In short, if you do not at least give me a source that states what you claim (which you did not here), it's up to you to find sources. Maybe calling it "obvious vandalism", cause it's not immediately obvious, but for someone who is more familiar with the standards of MOS:FILM and WP:SLASH, there is no real arguing in favor of what the IP was doing. It's just against a few rules. I can elaborate a bit further. The user had continuously added "Yongarry is a 1999/2001 film". Now, the first thing going is that it used a slash between 1999 and 2001. Slashes suggest the terms are interchangable, but using a dash here is not appropriate either. Per WP:FILMYEAR, it says we should "Always go by the films' earliest release date, whether it be at a film festival, a world premiere, a public release, or the release in the country or countries that produced the film, excluding sneak previews or screenings.". This is what I had reverted it too, which is 1999. The confusion comes into play when the film was re-released with extra footage in 2003. I was attempting to add some content to this to make it clear, as the IP was rapidly adding content to the article, and I figured "hey, lets try and catch this before it becomes a bit messy". Usually, I find a single vandal warning given to IPs and new users gets them discussing with you on how and what the standards of wikipedia are. Here, I did not get a response, so it became a bit tricky on how to handle it. I probably should have gone into more details, and for that, I admit I was wrong. If you think the block should stand, I will not hold it against you, but my I'd still request an unblock just so I can keep an keep working at the dozens of other articles I'm tackling. I think my edit history suggests (even just from the past few days) suggests I regularly try and communicate with users to come to a conclusion on problems. I'll leave it up to you though. It can be difficult when faced with an editor who won't discuss. If the changes are so bad that they need urgently reverting, then you can seek the help of other editors to try and discuss with the editor or undo the changes. Very soon it will be them who is violating 3RR on not yourself. If it's not urgent then suggest returning in a week and quietly undoing. It is likely the other editor will have moved on. I am still working on finding more people willing to work on different sections of the article (although I am fine if that doesn't work out). My goal is to get this article promoted to FA status so we will have to be very thorough on how we do things there. Once all the information is added and all sources are cited in the article we will need to work on adding the right quality images to the article. So an anonymous user that goes by the IP address of 104.57.183.127 keeps vandalizing both Yonggary pages and I suspect this user is also operating under another IP, 2602:306:839B:77F0:648B:9CC3:86BD:26ED. This person has been warned about unconstructive edits and was even blocked for a few days but he keeps going back to do the same thing that got him blocked for 3 days. What can we do? Good news! I've found a source that confirms the so-called international dub as Toho's dub, or more technically, the dub that Toho commissioned from Frontier Enterprises, separate from the US English dub. Source comes from page 152 of Steve Ryfle's "Japan's Favorite Mon-Star". I've already added the info on the Gargantuas article but I thought you might wanna check it out, if you have the book but if not, you can easily find the entire book for free on google. Regarding the runtime, I know that Template:Infobox film clearly states to only add the theatrical running time but it also states Do not include any additional run times, such as a director's cut or an unrated version, without consensus. I think it should be fair that we should hold an open discussion to allow the US runtime in the article's infobox. It is a co-production between Japanese & American studios, after all. I'm a big supporter of people should be able to read the infobox to get basic information without having to know anything about the films production history or even its plot. In this case, having to runtimes will make people ask more questions than not. Since we can explain what is missing/added/etc. from this film as there is enough information about this, I would honestly leave out the running time in the infobox and explain these changes in the release section briefly. The cat character, Shiro, is clearly heard being referred to as Shiro many times in the film itself. Source: House (1977) For those with difficulty parsing individual words in Japanese, the scene near the beginning where the characters are waiting outside the gate is an especially unambiguous example, as there is a line consisting solely of the cat being called after by name.

Substitutions such as "Snowflake" and "Blanche" seen in some English subtitle files are arbitrary changes made by individual English subtitling teams, and the article "House (1977 film)" is about that film, not the whims of The Criterion Collection's subtitling team. It is inaccurate and confusing to refer to a character by a name that is not part of the original film and is never heard in the film itself, especially since someone seeking information about said film from a source they consider reputable may be specifically looking for clarification regarding Shiro's canonical name.

@24.0.65.194: Its not inaccurate, as it has been used. Per WP:COMMONNAME we should use the name that readers would be most familiar with. As this is the English wikipedia, most of its reader are not going to be fluent in Japanese. Its the same reason we have an article on Seven Samurai, not Shichinin no Samurai. Some of the girls nicknames do not directly match their names in Japanese, but that's the nature of translation. So this hardly follows up with your idea that its "confusing". I'd suggest if you want to use the other name, perhaps arrange it like the article on Audition has done. 03:49, 21 January 2018 (UTC)

It's an inaccuracy by omission at the least, since it is not what most readers can be safely assumed to be familiar with. It's also worth noting that in Japanese, Shiro is a male name common for cats and dogs, whereas in English, Blanche is a female name common for old women, so a much more inexplicable change than the rest. It's a misleading translation, not just less than a direct match (which is unfortunate from an artistic standpoint), but yes, also a cause for confusion regardless of foreign language knowledge or how much one cares about the accuracy of translation. Unlike in your example of the title "Seven Samurai", there isn't one overwhelmingly known English translation of the character's name, and it isn't a matter of simple title, for which varying translations wouldn't cause notable issues in discussion. To give my personal experiences as one example, everyone has always started out using different names and pronouns for Shiro when the film comes up in conversation, which invariably brings things to a confused halt for a moment. I have more often observed this sort of thing playing out online. I don't see how one could provide citation for common use or the lack thereof, so hopefully that is not an expectation, but suffice it to say that "Blanche" is far from ubiquitous among English speakers. There's no need to avoid clarifying something many people do get confused about.

It could be helpful to include an aside noting commonly seen English subtitlings such as "Blanche" and "Snowflake", but the character's actual name should be made clear. Hello there mate. I think this Scott Pilgrim problem is getting out of hand. I was told that you are a reasonable guy, unlike TheOldJacobite, which BTW whenever I drop him a note he deletes it. This "WP:Wheight" thing is a joke I think, because we arn't doing it for the right films, e.g. I have tried to do it for "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" and mine havn't been heeded like yours would. To answer your question on the page on "how is Japan involved?", the film was co produced with "Dentsu". Here is a list of all the production companies that produced the film and their respected countries as following:

   Universal Pictures (USA)
   Marc Platt Productions (USA)
   Big Talk Productions (UK)
   Closed on Mondays Entertainment (USA)
   Dentsu (Japan)
   Relativity Media (USA)
   Scott Pilgrim Productions (USA)

BTW I have been scowging the internet for other sources and most of them seem to say just "USA". We should get our sources from other websites, not reviews that other people have written. I have spent all day writing this to get it right, and searching the internet for other sources and been in contact with them and the ones that responded to me said that they get their sources from you guys. Hello! I appreciate your efforts, @86.149.77.56:. I do not think you are lying and are trying to get down to what the production companies are. Its a difficult thing on wikipedia as we to abide by certain rules. With some films. As for Scott Pilgrim, its definitely difficult. As we often resort to databases for this information, its not always going to be accurate as databases are just well, not usually the highest quality source. Even the current BFI and AFI has mistakes but its difficult to differentiate between what is a mistake, and what source is right and what source is wrong. I wouldn't swing with IMDb, per WP:RS/IMDb. As for finding an accurate source on what the "real" production companies involved with the film are, I don't think we can find a true one. Its such a business thing that more third-party sources don't discuss or don't even state how they declare what country does what. I'd honestly be happier to not list anything at all for the Scott Pilgrim page until we can clarify some information, I'd rather have nothing than information that we would write as "partially accurate" than the real deal, because its difficult to get a reader to understand that. Even just eye-balling the production companies is not even an accurate solution (to my great frustration!). For example, Iron Man 3 had tons of press about it initially going to be an official Chinese-US co-production. However, the Hollywood Reporter noted that despite the Chinese company contributing money, it did not contribute enough to become an official co-production by various standards and rules that I do not quite understand and have yet to really find the nitty gritty detail on. It's speculation, but this could be the case for Scott Pilgrim as well. Until we dig it out further, I'd honestly be happier leaving it blank with a footnote. Its just not clear yet.
