Thanks for your creation of the draft! Though, beware of some unreliable sources, have a look at here for a guide on which refs are reliable! Many thanks! VickKiang (talk) 22:47, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for reviewing! I wasn't sure which were considered reliable or reputable so I will definitely reference this sources list in the future :D Salem Ander (talk) 22:53, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If you are referring to the review in Games International Magazine, the question of length question can probably be answered by @BOZ as they were the one who found that source. As for the sources you provided, thank you so much and I will be sure to put those on the page! :D Salem Ander (talk) 21:05, 25 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hey there! We have met before while you worked on drafts, but I am reaching out to say hi. :) I'm glad that you are working on building up new articles for board and table games, and also working on other existing drafts to help get them into article space. A good place to keep an eye on would be Category:Draft-Class board and table game articles if you're looking for more active drafts to work on. A far more daunting task (but one that is, in my opinion, absolutely worthwhile) would be to see if any of the games at User:BOZ/Games deletions can be restored from redirection or deletion - if you see anything there that you feel would be worth spending your time working on, let me know. :) BOZ (talk) 15:06, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! Thanks for reaching out :) I'm relatively new to Wikipedia so I'm a little shy to talk to people on here. I've been looking at the Draft Category for BTG (which is how I found your drafts!) but I haven't seen your games deletions page so I'll certainly check it out! If I see one I want spend my time on, does the page need to be restored or do I just start a new article? How do deleted/redirected articles work? Salem Ander (talk) 18:07, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No need to be shy, but as you gain confidence I'm sure it will come more naturally. There are many games listed on my deletion page, so take a deep breath before looking! :) If you see anything there worth your time, let me know. If it was simply redirected then I will restore it for you or move it to draft space. If it was deleted fully, then I will help you get it restored so it can be worked on. Just let me know! I personally feel if someone else took the time to at least attempt an article, it's better to honor that and improve it rather than start over (unless the original article was so thoroughly bad that it can't be improved at all), but that's my opinion. BOZ (talk) 19:48, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! I can take a look and see. I'm not sure if I'll be able to find any additional sources, but I can add infoboxes and fix reference errors. Salem Ander (talk) 01:16, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Two more yesterday, should be the last board game creations from me this week: Tri-nim and Touch and Go (game). Have you thought about looking into DYK? When you make a big expansion to an article (potential examples from above include Image, Rift Trooper, Stocks & Bonds, and Dark December, and I'm sure some of your own original creations as well) you have the potential to get some recognition for your work and get the article on the main page of Wikipedia for a day. :) This was done recently with Lexicon (mentioned above) and it should be featured in DYK in the near future. It's up to you if you have the interest, but you certainly have the ability from what I've seen. BOZ (talk) 15:38, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I started Noble Armada today - I slowed down a bit on new articles because lately I haven't been going through as many magazines that overlapped with each other! :) BOZ (talk) 22:13, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And today I started Domain (game), and that should be it for this week. It should be a little slower going through the other 63 issues that I have access to; the above that I did this week was pretty much catch-up. BOZ (talk) 18:01, 3 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And, I finished this magazine with a bang by starting Tyranno Ex. :) I will likely slow down a lot with creation of new tabletop game articles, or at least what I do next should be easier to find other sources for so I won't barrage you with new creations. Black Gate (magazine) is my next source, founded at the start of this century, and I will start on that next week. I will mostly be going through its (currently) 921 posts about Games, starting with the oldest ones from 2008 (the first one covering the death of Gary Gygax. There is a lot of tabletop RPG and video games stuff in there too, and not all of those articles are actual reviews, so we'll see how many board/card/etc articles I get to creating, but the bright side on these is that internet coverage of those games should be more readily available than these 30-50 year old games I've been covering for a while. :) BOZ (talk) 01:43, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah! Thank you! I've been busy IRL the past month or so, so I've been very slow with fixing up articles. I should hopefully have more time soon :) Salem Ander (talk) 01:50, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, mind if I keep you busy for a little while? :) A few years ago I went through the entire run of The Space Gamer and added reviews to everything that got reviewed in the magazine (which, I will tell you, is hundreds of reviews) before going on and doing the same with other magazines (all of which had far fewer reviews). Anyhow, most of the articles have grown over time to include reviews from other publications, but some have yet to advance beyond that one review. Is there anything you can do to improve any of these? Even if that is just to find out that reviews exist and note them on the talk page as you did before. There are a lot so you can stop me at any time, including immediately. ;) For starters, from the oldest days of the magazine, all of these were published in the mid to late 1970s: Star Probe, The War of the Worlds II, The Siege of Minas Tirith, Starguard!, Starship & Empire, Starship: The Game of Space Contact, Rift Trooper. Infobox, copyedit, additional sourcing, anything you can do would be appreciated. :) BOZ (talk) 17:55, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
To save time and trouble, just noting these were all merged or redirected, but there is a long long list of things to possibly bring back in the future one day. ;) BOZ (talk) 07:00, 9 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK, good deal! I will de-PROD Quiddler and post your sources on the talk page. Let me know if you find anything for Five Crowns. BOZ (talk) 19:30, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How about for French wargame AT-43? The article for the publisher and some of their other games are also up for deletion in case you can find anything. BOZ (talk) 17:45, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello! I couldn't find anything for Passage to Cathay, Star Empires, or Warlock. For Flintloque did find this notable review by Armchair General and this short blurb in Mil Sims' 1997 catalogue archive (the latter is not really notable, but could be used alongside other sources). I'm going to keep looking around and see if I can find anything else Salem Ander (talk) 06:13, 26 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hey awesome, along with this Polish review that is probably enough to get Flintloque restored, but please do let me know if you see anything else so I can make a stronger case. :) I knew these would be more likely longshot cases, but even getting one of them back would be great. The others, maybe one day! BOZ (talk) 12:53, 26 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That one was deleted, but if you do find some sources it can always be challenged and restored, same as with any of the redlinks posted above. Speaking of which, if you do find more for Flintloque let me know, although I think I have enough to bring it back regardless. :) BOZ (talk) 18:00, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The review you found is actually for a different wargame called Flintlock by Richard Berg: [3] but I'm going to store that on my page of sources in case that can be made into an article one day. :) BOZ (talk) 13:52, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely no worries at all. :) The names were close so totally understandable, and the review you found could lead to a new article one day so I call that a positive. :) BOZ (talk) 14:45, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I fixed up the article about the Mad Magazine board game and got it restored, but the Mad card game article was one deleted by PROD, then restored and moved to Draft:The Mad Magazine Card Game and eventually deleted again due to inactivity. I'll work on this one myself eventually, but if you see anything to build it up I say have a go at it. :) BOZ (talk) 16:46, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I built up and published The Mad Magazine Card Game a couple of months ago so I think that one should be fine. :) One more I've been looking at is All Things Zombie which was deleted by PROD in 2016. It was a 2005 Origins Award winner so I'm expecting there should be more coverage of it? BGG page: [4] It does not look like it was preserved on archive.org though, but if any other sources exist I'm sure that one is perfectly restorable. BOZ (talk) 19:45, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Right now Triology is a disambiguation page, but it doesn't seem to me like a redlink-only page really serves anyone. :) Many years ago it was an unsourced article:[5] so maybe there is a reason to think that sources exist for it? BGG page for that:[6]BOZ (talk) 19:38, 31 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Salem Ander, you may already be aware but just in case, you do not need to submit drafts through AfC. Given you are autoconfirmed, you can move your drafts to article space yourself (see MOVE). They will still be reviewed by WP:NPP and likely worst case scenario is if a reviewer believes it is not yet ready, they will just move it back draft where you address the issues and either move it back or submit it to AfC. Pinging @BOZ as I see you are working with them and am sure they can provide guidance as well. Of course you are welcome to continue submitting drafts for AfC review. S0091 (talk) 18:09, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome, and thank you for the advice, I think Salem Ander is getting a good hang of how to build quality articles. :) BOZ (talk) 18:12, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I've been hesitant to move drafts myself without having them first confirmed by other users, but I've written enough articles at this point that I'm probably confident enough to start doing so :) Salem Ander (talk) 18:16, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@BOZ I think it is awesome you reached out to Salem Ander and now the two of you are teaming up. That is, after all, the spirit of Wikipedia and what has made it as successful as it is.
Salem - glad you are starting to get the hang of it. I know its intimidating in the beginning (and can still be so even after one is "experienced".) :) S0091 (talk) 18:23, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
An article you recently created, Á la Carte (game award), is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Translations
Hey there, just noticed your user page notes a few articles translated from German pages. If you were interested in doing more of those, I will note that User:BOZ/BTG reviews noticeboard has a number of articles listed there with a review that do have articles in German. :)
There are probably more of them on my list that do have German language articles, but those are a good place to start if you had additional reviews for any of them. :) BOZ (talk) 01:52, 28 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I don't actually speak German, but I often find that there are a lot of well-written articles from German Wikipedia without English counterparts that are easy to find sources for, which I can use to help with rough translations. I would love to do some translations if I can find sources! Salem Ander (talk) 17:17, 28 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hah, nice. :) Well that's cool, if you are able to get any use out of any of that, I will be glad to have done my part to provide sources in any way that I could. BOZ (talk) 17:20, 28 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! My logic is this: the Deutscher Spiele Preis is a very similar award also awarded at Spiel which hosted by a separate magazine (which is also without an article). This award is, for the moment, considered notable enough to have an English article. As both this and the related Essen Feather article are in mainspace, it stands to reason that the Á la Carte draft should be as well. Ultimately would be up to more experienced users to tell whether either of these awards are actually notable, and there has definitely already been some concern over the Deutscher Spiel Preis page, but I at least think they need to considered together. Either way, I will try to find more sources that prove the draft's notability. Thanks! :) Salem Ander (talk) 02:14, 22 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That makes sense @Salem Ander. I wasn't sure, so I didn't decline it-games & their awards/magazines aren't my forte. I think the award should be covered, I'm just not sure where the best place is for the reader to find that information. StarMississippi02:38, 22 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that it's uncertain where the best place for the reader to find this information should be. It might be best to leave the article in draftspace until the 2023 awards in October to see if there's any more notable coverage of that before making a decision either way? In the meantime, I'll continue to update the draft with anything else I find :) Salem Ander (talk) 02:58, 22 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Close paraphrasing
Your addition to Skull (card game) has been removed or altered, as it appears to closely paraphrase a copyrighted source. Limited close paraphrasing or quotation is appropriate within reason, so long as the material is clearly attributed in the text. However, longer paraphrases which are not attributed to their source may constitute copyright violation or plagiarism, and are not acceptable on Wikipedia. Such content cannot be hosted here for legal reasons; please do not post it on any page, even if you plan to fix it later. You may use external websites or printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.
Thank you! The sentence did appear to be close paraphrasing so I'm glad you were able to identify this and change it. It's been a while since I wrote that page, but I imagine I must have assumed it was reasonable since I was citing the paraphrased source. I'll make sure to avoid doing this in the future :) Salem Ander (talk) 16:59, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
