Value of mass archiving of sources?
Hello - I'm curious why you feel an edit like Special:Diff/1366391935 is needed or useful. Some of the sources are updated annually (example, the IUCN), so should not be archived to a source a few years old. Do you take the time to review each source before executing the mass archive?
I know IABot has useful functions, but don't like its mass application without checking the actual status of sources.
For a highly reviewed and edited article like hummingbird, other sources will likely be updated in due course with new or better sources. I don't see harm to the article leaving them as they were.
Where did you learn to do this mass archiving? Zefr (talk) 19:47, 27 July 2026 (UTC)
- Well, I didn't know that there were any other downsides of IABot (besides inflating the article size). I usually enable the "add archives to all non-dead references" function, out of habit (which explains the large amount of sources that were archived) to help prevent potential link rot. So, I probably should disable that option. (:]) Wikistander (talk • contribs • in solidary ) 01:39, 28 July 2026 (UTC)

You're invited to join the Organized Labour community editing event, a cross-wiki event taking place throughout September 2026!
The campaign brings together Wikimedians interested in improving coverage of organised labour, workers, trade unions, and labour history. If you want to add other language editions or other wiki projects you are strongly encouraged to do so! This event spans geography and languages!
