"Doc" Carpenter, son of Harry and Abby, married Margaret Ann Gray, and was the father of three daughters.[5] He was a descendant of William Carpenter (born c1730-1750 - died c1803) of Brunswick County, Virginia.[6]
Carpenter began his military career by enlisting in the Marine Corps Reserves in 1949. He was called to active duty in October 1950 and attained the rank of sergeant before completing his enlistment in April 1952.[1][5]
