Synopsis
Dans l’Allemagne de l’Est de l'après-guerre, Peter Gottfried, un jeune musicien, est impatient d’être accepté au conservatoire de musique. En vue de préparer son examen d'entrée, il se prépare à répondre aux sept questions exigées par le pouvoir communiste, dont la septième équivaut à renier ses convictions religieuses. Avant cela, il est invité par les autorités du pays à participer au Festival de la jeunesse de Berlin. Son père proteste, sachant que les communistes ont l’intention de l’utiliser comme un pion politique, pour montrer au monde entier que l’Allemagne de l’Est accorde des droits égaux aux religieux. Finalement, dégouté par leurs méthodes, Pierre quitte le Festival et fait défection à l’Ouest.
