Windows shell est l'interface utilisateur graphique du système d'exploitation Microsoft Windows. Ses éléments facilement identifiables sont le bureau, la barre des tâches, le menu Démarrer, le sélecteur de tâches et la fonction Lecture automatique.

Histoire

MS-DOS Executive

La première démonstration publique de Windows, en 1983, comportait un shell simpliste appelé Session Control Layer, qui servait de menu constamment visible au bas de l'écran. En cliquant sur « Run », on affichait une liste des programmes que l'on pouvait lancer, et en cliquant sur « Session Control », on affichait une liste des programmes déjà en cours d'exécution afin de pouvoir passer de l'un à l'autre[1].
