ニューヨーク州議会代議院(英語 : The New York State Assembly)は、アメリカ合衆国ニューヨーク州の州議会であるニューヨーク州議会の下院である[2]。上院はニューヨーク州議会元老院である[3]。下院議員は2年任期で、定数は150であり[4]、任期制限はない[5]。ニューヨーク州上院とともに、ニューヨーク州政府の立法機関を構成し、ニューヨーク州知事と協力して法律の制定や州予算の策定にあたる。ニューヨーク州議会の立法権限および責任には、公共政策に関する法案の可決、州の歳出レベルの設定、増税や減税、および知事による拒否権の支持または無効化の投票などが含まれる[6]。

下院議長は議会を主宰する。議長は多数党によって選出され、その後、議会の決議により、議会全体の承認を得る。議長は議会の議事を司るだけでなく、最高指導者の立場にあり、立法や委員会の割り当ての流れを管理する。少数派院内総務は少数党の会議によって選出される。多数派院内総務は議長によって選出される[7]。

議員要件
ニューヨーク州憲法第3条7項には、議員要件について下記のように定められている。
米国市民であり、ニューヨーク州に5年間居住している者でなければ、立法府の議員となることはできない。... また、選挙に先立つ12ヶ月間、上院または下院選挙区に居住している者でなければならない。上院または下院選挙区の再調整または変更が有効となった後、最初の選挙で上院議員または下院議員に選出された場合、その職に就く資格を得るには、選挙の直近12ヶ月間、上院または下院選挙区が含まれる郡の居住者でなければならない。
