ウペルナビク（英: Upernavik）は、グリーンランドのアヴァンナータ自治体にある小さな町。同名の島に築かれている。人口は2024年の時点で1,064人と、グリーンランド全土で12番目に多い^[2]。町の規模が小さいため、町の端から端まで歩いて行くことができる。地名はグリーンランド語で「常春の地」の意^[3]。

歴史

1824年、ウペルナビク近郊でキンギグトルスアクのルーンストーンが発見された。これは13世紀のバイキング作と推定されるルーン石碑で、3人のバイキングの名前や付近のケアンの組み立て方法などが記されていた。

ウペルナビクはバイキングの痕跡が発見されている最北の地で、それらのバイキングの物品はイヌイットの商人によってさらに北へ運ばれた可能性もある。

交通

空の便

ウペルナビク空港にはエア・グリーンランドが就航しており、カーナーク、カールシュト、イルリサットとの間に定期便が運航されている^[4]。群島のほとんどの集落の間には平日、ヘリコプターのベル 212が運航される^[4]。

船舶

夏にはロイヤル・アークティック・ラインの小型フェリーが村々を訪れる。

ウペルナビク群島

ウペルナビクはバフィン湾の北東部にある広大なウペルナビク群島の小島に築かれた。群島はシグープ・ヌナー半島の北東、北緯71度50分西経56度00分 / 北緯71.833度西経56.000度 / 71.833; -56.000^[5]付近からメルビル湾の南端、北緯74度50分西経57度30分 / 北緯74.833度西経57.500度 / 74.833; -57.500^[6]付近にかけて広がっている。

人口

人口は2024年時点で1,064人^[2]。2010年の時点では1,129人^[7]で、過去20年間は比較的安定して推移しており、1990年と比べ17%以上増加した^[7]。群島内の小さな村落からの出稼ぎがその要因とされる。
