.dev는 소프트웨어·웹 개발을 위한 일반 최상위 도메인이다. 구글의 자회사 Charleston Road Registry가 운영한다.[1]

역사

.dev는 ICANN의 신규 일반 최상위 도메인 프로그램에 따라 2014년 루트 영역에 위임되었다.[1] 2019년 2월 19일 조기 접근 기간이 시작되었고, 같은 해 3월 1일 일반 등록이 시작되었다.[2]

실제 최상위 도메인으로 도입되기 전에는 로컬 테스트 주소의 끝에 .dev를 붙이는 웹 개발자가 많았다. 이후 구글이 .dev 전체를 HSTS preload 목록에 포함하면서, 최신 브라우저에서는 HTTPS를 설정하지 않은 기존 로컬 .dev 주소에 접속할 수 없게 되었다.[3][4]

보안

.dev는 최상위 도메인 전체가 HSTS preload 목록에 포함되어 있다. 따라서 웹 브라우저에서 .dev 사이트에 연결하려면 HTTPS를 설정해야 하며, 개별 사이트가 별도로 preload 등록을 신청할 필요는 없다.[2]

사용

GitHub은 저장소를 브라우저에서 편집할 수 있는 github.dev 편집기를 제공한다.[5] 구글의 애플리케이션 개발 프레임워크 플러터도 공식 문서와 API 참조에 flutter.dev와 api.flutter.dev를 사용한다.[6]
