IBM 1050 데이터 통신 시스템은 다른 1050 서브시스템이나 IBM 1400, IBM 7000 또는 System/360 계열의 IBM 컴퓨터와 데이터를 송수신하기 위한 컴퓨터 터미널 서브시스템이다. 1963년에 처음 출시되었으며 1960년대에 널리 사용되었다. 1052 프린터-키보드는 소형 및 중형 S/360 프로세서에서 사용된 1052-7 콘솔 프린터-키보드의 기반이 되기도 했다.

통신은 초당 75 또는 150비트의 속도로 직렬 반이중 방식으로 수행되었다. 통신 회선에 연결하기 위해서는 IBM 라인 어댑터와 같은 모뎀이 필요했다. IBM 1050은 다지점 비동기 통신(Start-Stop 프로토콜)과 향상된 오류 검사(LRC 및 VRC) 기능을 갖추었으며, 텔레프린터의 10cps와 비교하여 최대 초당 14.8자(cps, 134보드 상당)의 속도를 지원했다.[1] 서브시스템당 하나의 IBM 1051과 다른 장치 하나가 필요했다.
