《New Values》는 미국의 음악가 이기 팝의 세 번째 스튜디오 음반이다. 1979년 4월 27일, 아리스타 레코드를 통해 발매되었다. 이 음반은 영국 음반 차트에서 60위[3], 빌보드 200에서 180위를 기록했으며[4], 데이비드 보위가 참여하지 않은 이기 팝의 첫 솔로 작업이 되었다.

배경

《New Values》는 이기 팝이 아리스타 레코드에서 발매한 첫 음반이자, 《Kill City》 이후 이기 팝과 제임스 윌리엄슨이 다시 협업한 작품이다. 또한 이 음반은 《Metallic K.O.》와 《Kill City》에서 스투지스의 라이브 피아노를 맡았던 멀티 연주자 스콧 서스턴이 두 사람과 재회한 작품이기도 하다.

녹음 및 발매

윌리엄슨은 〈Don't Look Down〉에서 기타를 연주했으나, 다른 모든 트랙의 기타는 스콧 서스턴이 연주했으며, 윌리엄슨은 프로덕션에 집중했다.[5] 마찬가지로 수록곡 중 한 곡만 이기 팝과 윌리엄슨이 공동 작곡했으며, 다섯 곡은 팝과 서스턴의 공동 작업이었다.

《New Values》는 1979년 아리스타 레코드를 통해 발매되었다. 비평가들로부터는 호평을 받았으나 상업적으로는 성공하지 못해 미국 빌보드 200 차트에서 최고 180위를 기록하는 데 그쳤다.

〈I'm Bored〉와 〈Five Foot One〉 뮤직 비디오가 제작되었다.

《New Values》는 비평가들로부터 호평을 받았다. 음반 발매 당시 《NME》에 글을 쓴 폴 몰리는 《New Values》가 "오스터버그를 사상가로, 이기를 퍼포머로 확고히 입증하며, 그 관계는 긍정적이고 자긍심에 차 있다"고 평했다.[13] 그러나 《뉴욕 타임스》는 《New Values》가 이전 데이비드 보위가 프로듀싱한 음반들과 비교했을 때 "밋밋하다"고 평가했다.[14]

《팝매터스》의 샬럿 로빈슨은 이 음반이 "거칠음과 섬세함, 반항과 만족, 진지함과 유머, 자신에 찬 절규와 미묘한 발라드 사이에서 섬세한 균형을 이루며... 이 음반을 빛나게 한다"고 썼다.[15]
