Ophcrack은 레인보 테이블을 통해 LM 해시를 사용하여 윈도우 로그인 비밀번호를 크래킹하는 무료 오픈 소스 (GPL 라이선스) 프로그램이다. 이 프로그램은 윈도우의 SAM 파일에서 직접 덤프하는 것을 포함하여 다양한 형식에서 해시를 가져올 수 있는 기능을 포함하고 있으며, 명령줄 또는 프로그램의 GUI(그래픽 사용자 인터페이스)를 사용하여 실행할 수 있다. 대부분의 컴퓨터에서 ophcrack은 몇 분 내에 대부분의 비밀번호를 해독할 수 있다.

Ophcrack은 라이브 CD 배포판으로도 제공되며, 윈도우 시스템에서 비밀번호를 검색, 해독 및 크래킹하는 작업을 자동화한다. 하나의 라이브 CD 배포판은 윈도우 XP 및 이전 버전에 사용할 수 있으며, 다른 하나는 윈도우 비스타 및 윈도우 7에 사용할 수 있다.[4] ophcrack의 라이브 CD 배포판은 SliTaz GNU/Linux로 빌드된다.

버전 2.3부터 Ophcrack은 NTLM 해시도 크랙한다. 이는 LM 해시 생성이 비활성화된 경우(이는 윈도우 비스타의 기본값이다) 또는 비밀번호가 14자보다 긴 경우(이 경우 LM 해시는 저장되지 않는다)에 필요하다.

버전 3.7.0부터 소스 코드가 SourceForge에서 GitLab으로 옮겨졌다.[5]
