REX OS(REX Operating System, Real-time Executive Operating System)는 퀄컴이 ARM 프로세서 기반 휴대폰 Dual-Mode Subscriber Station (DMSS) 또는 Advanced Mode Subscriber Software (AMSS) 개발을 위해 개발한 실시간 운영체제 (RTOS)이다. 2007년 기준으로 대부분의 한국 휴대폰은 REX에서 실행되었다.
REX는 두 가지 운영체제의 조합이다. L4Ka::Pistachio 임베디드 마이크로커널과 이구아나에 퀄컴과 HTC의 광범위한 수정 및 확장이 이루어졌다.[2]
원래 인텔 80186용으로 개발되었으나, 이후 ARM으로 포팅되었고 X86 아키텍처는 더 이상 지원되지 않는다. REX는 POSIX를 준수하지 않거나 오픈 소스 소프트웨어가 아니며 사용하려면 퀄컴의 사유 소프트웨어 사용권이 필요하다.[3]
2012년 현재 활발히 개발되거나 판매되는 것으로 보이지는 않지만, 삼성 SPH-M300과 같이 선불 요금 고객이 주로 사용하는 현재 또는 최근 판매되는 보급형 휴대폰에 사용되고 있다.
기능
REX는 다음과 같은 기능을 가진 RTOS이다.
REX는 메모리 보호 기능은 제공하지 않지만 메모리 관리 기능은 제공한다.
