《Sacrament》는 미국의 헤비 메탈 밴드 램 오브 갓의 다섯 번째 스튜디오 음반이다. 2006년 8월 22일에 발매되었으며, 발매 첫 주 6만 3천 장의 판매량으로 빌보드 200 차트 8위로 데뷔하였다.[12] 이 음반은 2006년 가장 많이 판매된 헤비 메탈 음반이었으며, 《리볼버》 매거진으로부터 올해의 음반상을 수상했다. 2010년 기준으로 미국 내에서 33만 1천 장 이상 판매되었고[13], 2019년 9월 27일, 미국 음반 산업 협회로부터 골드 인증을 받았다.[14]

수록곡 〈Redneck〉은 2007년 그래미 어워드에서 최우수 메탈 퍼포먼스 부문 후보에 올랐으나, 최종적으로 슬레이어의 〈Eyes of the Insane〉에 패했다.[15]

배경

2005년 8월, 램 오브 갓은 Sounds of the Underground 투어의 헤드라이너로 활동한 뒤 버지니아주 리치먼드로 돌아와 《Sacrament》의 작곡 작업을 시작했다.[16]

2006년 드러머 크리스 애들러는 언론 발표를 통해 다음과 같이 밝혔다.[16]

"우리는 이 과정을 매우 진지하게 받아들이고 있습니다. 주 5~6일, 하루 6~8시간씩 작곡에 몰두하고 있습니다. 매우 강도 높고 생산적인 과정이며, 그만큼 큰 성과로 이어지고 있습니다."

수개월간의 작곡 이후 밴드는 2005년 12월 잠시 휴식을 가진 뒤 유럽 투어의 헤드라이너로 무대에 올랐다.[16]

이 음반은 이전 2004년작 《Ashes of the Wake》를 프로듀싱했던 머신이 다시 프로듀싱을 맡았다. 프리프로덕션은 2006년 3월 13일, 버지니아주 리치먼드에서 시작되었다.
