《Three Friends》는 영국의 프로그레시브 록 밴드 젠틀 자이언트가 1972년에 발표한 세 번째 스튜디오 음반이다. 이 음반은 젠틀 자이언트가 미국 차트에 처음으로 진입한 작품으로, 빌보드 200에서 최고 197위를 기록했다. 드러머 맬컴 모티모어가 참여한 유일한 음반으로, 이전 멤버 마틴 스미스의 탈퇴 이후 그가 합류했다.
콘셉트 음반인 《Three Friends》는 어린 시절 친구였던 세 사람이 각기 다른 삶의 길을 걷게 되는 이야기를 다루고 있다. 그러나 세 사람 모두 자신들의 새로운 삶에 만족하지 못하며, 마지막 곡은 그들이 다시 재회했는지 여부를 밝히지 않은 채 이야기를 열린 결말로 마무리한다. 음반은 대체로 기악곡 중심이며, 일부 곡에서만 짧은 보컬 구간이 등장한다.
제작
《Three Friends》는 밴드가 처음으로 자체 프로듀싱한 음반이다. 이전 두 음반은 데이비드 보위와 티렉스와 작업한 경험이 있는 토니 비스콘티가 프로듀싱을 맡았다.
〈Peel the Paint〉에서 게리 그린의 기타 솔로는 마이크 래틀리지의 에코플렉스를 사용하여 녹음되었는데, 이는 그린의 형제이자 소프트 머신의 로디였던 제프 그린이 빌려온 장비였다.
