Atriz eminentemente de TV, estreou nela em "Young Pioneers" de 1976 e cinema em "One Trick Pony" 1980. Ela é o membro mais velho do Brat Pack . Em 1996, recebeu aclamação da crítica e sua primeira indicação ao Oscar pelo filme Georgia .
