Alkalifili

Alkalifili adalah mikrob yang dapat diklasifikasikan sebagai ekstremofili yang dapat berkembang dalam lingkungan alkali dengan pH 9 sampai 11, seperti pada danau playa dan tanah dengan kandungan karbon cukup tinggi. Untuk bertahan hidup, alkalifili mempertahankan tingkat basa yang relatif rendah, yaitu sekitar 8 pH di dalam sel mereka dengan terus memompa ion hidrogen (H+) dalam bentuk ion hidronium (H3O+) melintasi membran sel dan menuju ke sitoplasma.
