Sebuah kota didefinisikan oleh Institute Statistik Nasional (INE) Chili sebagai suatu entitas perkotaan (urban)[1] yang memiliki lebih dari 5.000 jiwa penduduk. Daftar ini dibuat menurut laporan Juni 2005 oleh INE, yang berdasarkan sensus 2002 yang mencatat terdapat sebanyak 239 kota di seluruh negeri ini.[2]

  1. ^ Suatu "entitas urban" menurut definisi Institute Statistik Nasional Chili sebagai kelompok perumahan yang terkonsentrasi dengan lebih dari 2.000 penduduk, atau antara 1.001 sampai 2.000 penduduk bila 50% atau lebih populasinya aktif secara ekonomi, yaitu pada aktivitas sektor sekunder dan/atau tersier. Pengecualiannya ialah bagi pusat-pusat populasi yang bertujuan untuk turisme dan rekreasi dengan lebih dari 250 perumahan terkonsentrasi, yang meski tidak memenuhi persyaratan populasi dapat pula dianggap sebagai suatu perkotaan.
