Elk timur (Cervus canadensis canadensis) adalah sebuah subspesies punah atau populasi elk berbeda yang menghuni Amerima Serikat utara dan timur, dan Kanada selatan. Elk timur terakhri ditembak di Pennsylvania pada 1 September 1877.[1] Subspesies tersebut dinyatakan punah oleh United States Fish and Wildlife Service pada 1880.[2] Subspesies elk lain, elk merriam, juga punah pada sekitaran masa yang sama.

Pada 2017, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) mereklasifikasi seluruh subspesies elk Amerika Utara selain elk tule dan elk roosevelt sebagai C. c. canadensis. Jika ini akurat, ini menandakan bahwa subspesies tersebut tidak punah, dan kembali ke Amerika Serikat timur dalam bentuk elk pegunungan rocky, yang tersebar ke kawasan tersebut pada abad ke-20.[3]
