Foresis


Foresis atau foresi adalah sebuah hubungan komensalis sementara ketika suatu organisme (seekor foron atau foretik) menempelkan diri kepada suatu organisme inang hanya untuk berpergian atau berpindah tempat.[2] Hubungan ini telah diamati pada tungau dan caplak sejak abad ke-18,[3] dan pada fosil berusia 320 juta tahun.[2] Perilaku ini tidak hanya ditemukan pada arthropoda maupun hewan; tumbuhan dengan benih yang menyebar dengan menempelkan diri pada hewan juga dianggap foretik.[4]
Foresis berasal dari kata bahasa Yunani phoras (penyandang) dan phor (pencuri).[3] Istilah ini, yang pertama kali didefinisikan pada 1896 sebagai sebuah hubungan ketika suatu inang berperan sebagai kendaraan bagi penumpangnya, bertentangan dengan terminologi-terminologi lain yang sedang dikembangkan pada masa itu. Sehingga, perbatasan dalam segi durasi, makan, dan ontogeni kini dipertimbangkan.[3] Foresis digunakan sebagai sebuah strategi dalam penyebaran,[5][6] migrasi musiman,[7] berpindah ke inang atau habitat baru,[8] menjauhi habitat yang bersifat sementara,[9][3] serta mengurangi depresi perkawinan sekerabat.[10] Selain manfaat bagi individu dan spesies, kehadirannya dapat meningkatkan keanekaragaman ekologis dan kompleksitas suatu ekosistem.[4]
