Geobalanus oblongifolius, yang umumnya dikenal sebagai gopher apple,[2] adalah semak hijau abadi. Tumbuhan ini tumbuh di sandhill di semenanjung Florida serta pesisir Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Carolina Selatan, dan Georgia.[3]

Buahnya merupakan sumber makanan bagi kura-kura gopher dan banyak spesies satwa liar lainnya.[4]

Spesies ini awalnya dipublikasikan sebagai Licania michauxii oleh ahli botani Inggris G.T. Prance dalam J. Arnold Arbor. vol. 51 pada halaman 526 tahun 1970.[2] Nama tersebut diubah menjadi Geobalanus oblongifolius oleh (Michx.) Small dan dipublikasikan ulang dalam Fl. Miami: 81 (1913).[3] Meskipun demikian, spesies ini masih dikenal dengan nama lamanya di beberapa sumber.[2]
