Northrop JB-1 Bat

Northrop JB-1 "Bat" adalah rudal Amerika Serikat permukaan-ke-permukaan dan itu adalah prototipe bertenaga jet sayap terbang.

Program Army Air Forces Amerika Serikat MX-543 dimulai pada September 1942 untuk menggunakan versi mesin jet AS Frank Whittle[1] (AS bernama General Electric J31). Northrop Corporation dikontrak pada akhir 1943, dan hanya 10 airframes JB-1 dibangun.[2]

Sebuah versi berawak ditarik untuk penerbangan 1 pada "27 Agustus 1943",[3] dari Rogers Dry Lake,[4] dan versi glider diluncurkan dari kereta luncur roket dan jatuh pada Desember 1944. JB-1 tak berawak didukung oleh improvisasi turbojet General Electric B-1 dengan rentang sayap dari 28 kaki 4 inci (8,64 m) membuat 1st penerbangannya dari Eglin Field Santa Rosa Island, Florida, pada tanggal 7 Desember 1944, dan jatuh 400 meter dari rel peluncur.[5]
