Alistair Dove

Alistair Dove (born January 27, 1974, in Melbourne, Australia) is an Australian-American scientist who is currently the CEO of the Museum of Science and History in Jacksonville, Florida.[1] Alistair Dove has studied Marine Biology, Parasitology, and Whale Sharks.[2] Before becoming CEO at the Museum of Science and History, he was the vice president of research and conversation at the Georgia Aquarium, where he spent a lot of time researching Whale Sharks and other Marine life. He researched quality of water, parasites, Marine health, and many similar topics regarding that area.[3] Along those areas, he focuses on studying the biology of Whale Sharks to learn more about how they live, their natural history, how they are affected by parasites, and many more similar ideas.[2] While researching, Dr.Alistair Dove found a common ground in Mexico of Whale Sharks. He attended the University of Queensland in Australia, where he studied. In 1994, he achieved a Bachelor of Science degree in Parasitology and Zoology.[2][4] He also obtained his Ph.D in the study of Parasitology, and Microbiology.[2][4]

Work and research

While in Australia, Dr. Alistair Dove researched parasites in invasive fish species. He moved to the United States in 2000 and became a part of the Wildlife Conservation Society, Stony Brook University, Columbia University, and Cornell University.[3][4] When Dr. Alistair Dove joined the Georgia Aquarium team in 2006, where he was appointed as the Water Quality Lab manager. At this position, he studied and focused on researching the quality an health on water and its affects on Marine life. In 2009, he switched roles and joined the Research and Conservation program.[3] Dr. Alistair Dove is a huge reason why this program is as massive and successful as it is today. He taught through the AQUAVET program and was a faculty member for Biology at Georgia Institute of Technology, Neuroscience at Georgia State University, Anatomic Pathology at UGA, and Marine Science at Stony Brook University.[3]

After 17 years of researching and working at Georgia Aquarium, he left and joined the Museum of Science and History in Jacksonville, FL in 2020. He became the CEO at the museum on February 5, 2024, and is continuing research in his interested topics.[5][4]He is working on a MOSH Genesis Project to improve the Museum and studies that can be found in those topics and areas.[6] Dr. Dove believes that museums play a huge part in the way communities live and grow. His understanding and doctorate in subjects regarding Marine life is a huge help to making this possible and helping with future projects.[4]
