Donald J. Buchsbaum is an American radiation biologist and cancer researcher. He is a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB),[1] where he leads research on cancer therapies.[2]

Early life

Buchsbaum graduated from the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with a B.S. in physics. He then earned his M.S. in Radiation Biophysics and his Ph.D. in Biophysics-Immunology at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York.[3][4]

Academic career

Buchsbaum joined the UAB faculty in 1990, where he has led research programs in cancer biology, including studies on monoclonal antibody therapies and combination treatment approaches.[5][6][7] He has also served as the head of the Division of Radiation Biology within UAB's Department of Radiation Oncology.

Honors and recognition

Buchsbaum is a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors.[8] He has recieved awards including the John R. Durant Award for Excellence in Cancer Research and the John Hanephin Award of Research Excellence. He also receieved the collaborative breast cancer research award from the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama (BCRFA).[9]
