Comment: Zero evidence of notability per WP:NCORP. Almost entirely based on the company's own website. We're not interested in what the business wants to tell the world about itself, we're only interested in what third parties, esp. reliable and independent secondary sources have said about it. Essentia Analytics is a London-based financial technology company specializing in behavioral data analytics for professional investors.[1] Founded in 2013 by Clare Flynn Levy[2], the firm provides software and consulting services designed to help fund managers and asset allocators improve investment decision-making by identifying and mitigating cognitive biases
History
Essentia Analytics was established in 2013 by Clare Flynn Levy, a former fund manager with experience in both active equity and hedge fund management[2]. The company was established to address challenges faced by active fund managers in improving decision-making processes and mitigating behavioral biases.
In 2021, the company Northern Trust acquired a stake in Essentia, incorporating Essentia's Behavioral analytics into its Whole Office framework to support improvements in investment decision-making[3]
In 2022, Essentia launched the Behavioral Alpha® Benchmark (EBAB), a methodology designed to measure decision-making skills independently of portfolio performance.[2]
As of 2025, Essentia Analytics provides decision analytics services to professional investors and asset owners, overseeing more than $400 billion in assets. In 2025, Essentia announced a strategic alliance with Morningstar to incorporate the Behavioral Alpha Score into the Morningstar Direct Platform.[4]
Products and services
Essentia Analytics provides software and services to analyze investment decision-making behavior among professional investors and assist in performance improvement. Its offerings are used by portfolio managers, wealth managers, and institutional asset allocators to identify manager skill, examine patterns in historical trading behavior and support process-level evaluation of investment decisions.[5]
Research and Innovation
Essentia Analytics has conducted research focused on investment decision-making skills and behavior, including the development of the Behavioral Alpha Benchmark (EBAB), a proprietary framework for assessing portfolio managers based on decision-making skills rather than historical portfolio returns.[2] Published in the Journal of Investing, the Behavioral Alpha Benchmark evaluates seven types of investment decisions: stock picking, entry timing, sizing, scaling in, size adjusting, scaling out, and exit timing.[6] Essentia has since published research that reports a statistically significant relationship between Behavioral Alpha Scores and future portfolio outcomes[7]

Milestones and Recognition
Essentia Analytics has received several awards for its work in data analytics, financial technology, and workplace culture. In 2014, the company won the Best Data Analytics Tool award at the WatersRisk Buy-Side Technology Awards[8]. In early 2015, it received the Best Performance Data Analytics Software award from the Hedge Fund Journal Awards.[9] Later that year, Essentia was named one of the Guardian Startups of the Year and was recognized with the EFMA FinTech Award by the European Fund Management Association in 2016.
