Midnattsvrede is a Norwegian black metal band formed in Tønsberg in 1994 by Ole Christian Teigen and Asmodeus. Following a period of inactivity after the release of the band's first demo in 1997, Midnattsvrede was revived in 2013 by Teigen and Icelandic musician Einar Thorberg Guðmundsson.
History
Midnattsvrede was established in 1994 by Ole Christian Teigen, performing under the stage name "Jormungand", together with Asmodeus. The band's first release, Demo 97, was issued in 1997. Following the release of the demo, the band became inactive.
In 2013, Teigen revived Midnattsvrede together with Icelandic musician Einar Thorberg Guðmundsson, known for his work with Fortíð and Den Saakaldte. The collaboration resulted in Demo 13 and the EP Ripe Fruit on the Gallows Tree, released through Cold Raw Records in 2014.[1]
The reactivated band performed at the Inferno Festival in Oslo in 2014. Reviewing the festival for Louder Than War, Gaye Advert noted that Midnattsvrede had originally split in 1997 before returning with a new line-up led by founding member Teigen.[2]
The band's first full-length album, You Call Me Death, was released through Barsk Musikk on 25 December 2021. The album featured guest vocals by Andreas "Heljarmadr" Vingbäck of Dark Funeral.[3]
