Mike Marr (born October 8, 1969) is a New Zealand entrepreneur and philanthropist. He is the co-founder, chief executive officer, and managing director of TPT Group Holdings (NZ), a family-owned investment group and Family Office based in Auckland.
Early life and education
Marr was born on October 8, 1969, in Pukekohe, New Zealand. He had ADHD and struggled academically. He attended Pukekohe High School and left school in 1986. Later, Marr received qualifications in the electrical trade and electrotechnology, an advanced diploma in business, and diplomas in management, integrated risk management, and project management.[1]
Career

Marr began his career at Counties Energy, also known as Counties Power, where he worked from 1987 to 1994 in technical, trade, training, business analysis, and management roles. He later held management positions at UGL Limited, Electrix, and AESEC in Auckland.[2]
Marr founded MJM Electrical, an electrical contracting and security installation business, in 1999.[citation needed] The company later became part of Advanced Security Group. In the same year, Marr co-founded TPT Group Holdings (NZ) Limited, where he serves as group chief executive officer.[citation needed]
Later, in 2002, Marr founded Advanced Security following the acquisition of Siemens’ New Zealand security business in the northern region.[citation needed] He served as chief executive officer and executive director until 2017, and later became a non-executive director.[citation needed]
Marr has led ten successful start-up businesses and has acquired 17 others through TPT Group Holdings (NZ) Limited.[citation needed] The group includes ten businesses operating from 26 offices across New Zealand. He also founded Innovation Franklin, a Charitable Trust focused on innovation, and co-founded The Runway Foundation, a Charity working with children and families impacted by ADHD.[citation needed]
Marr has led and owns businesses involved in security, technology, property, communications, finance and leasing, digital services, and investment.[citation needed] Group-owned companies include Advanced Security, Advanced Digital, Advanced Communications, Advanced Innovation, Advanced Command, Advanced Secure Projects, Technology Leasing, Trade Rentals, Promessa Property Group, and Investimenti.[citation needed]
He has also held governance roles with community, business, energy, education, media, and charitable organizations, including Innovation Franklin, The Runway Foundation, Counties Energy Trust, Waipa Networks, Rhema Media, Eqalis Pharmaceuticals, and AUT Business School.[3]
Awards and recognition
In 2014, Marr was a finalist in the EY Entrepreneur of the Year awards in New Zealand.[citation needed] He is also a recipient of the Beta Gamma Sigma Medallion of Entrepreneurship.[citation needed] Marr was named a BLAKE Leader by BLAKE NZ in 2020.[4]
Philanthropy and community involvement
Marr is involved with several community organizations. He and his wife, Terese, are also involved with The Runway Foundation, a charity that supports young people with ADHD and families in need.[citation needed]

Marr is married to Terese Marr MNZM and lives in Pukekohe with his family.[citation needed]
