Thunder Compute was founded by Carl Peterson and Brian Model. The founders met at the Georgia Institute of Technology and established the company in 2024.[2]

In July 2024, the company participated in the Y Combinator Summer 2024 cohort and raised initial seed funding from investors including Y Combinator, Team Ignite Ventures, and Avesta Fund.[3] In April 2025, the company announced a $1.5 million seed funding round to scale its GPU virtualization technology.[4]
