Ege University
Ege University or Aegean University (Turkish: Ege Üniversitesi) is a public research university in Bornova, İzmir. It was founded in 1955 with the faculties of Medicine and Agriculture. It is the first university to start courses in İzmir[2] and the fourth oldest university in Turkey.[3] HistoryEge University was one of the largest universities in Turkey, with 19 faculties, 9 junior colleges, and 8 institutes, until part of it was separated to establish Dokuz Eylül University in 1982. Following this division, Ege University retained 7 faculties, 3 junior colleges, and approximately 9,000 students. Institutes
Campus Dormitory facilities on the campus are managed by the General Directorate of Students' Credits and Dormitories, accommodating approximately 6,000 students. In addition to the rectorate and the main campus in Bornova, Ege University operates vocational training schools in Tire, Bergama, Bayındır, and Ödemiş, as well as the Atatürk Cultural Center in Konak. Applied education centers are located in Urla, Menemen, Mordoğan, Çiğli, and Özdere. The university also maintains an observatory in Kurudağ. Through these facilities, Ege University provides services in education, science, health, and social and cultural development to both students and the public. To further enhance these offerings, a West Campus was established in Çeşme. Student life and culture Ege University provides a range of opportunities for personal, cultural, social, and professional development, complementing its academic programs. Cultural and social activities are held in several venues, including the newly restored Culture and Arts Hall with a capacity for 330 spectators, the Amphitheater with a capacity for 5,000 spectators, the Atatürk Cultural Center (featuring two auditoriums with capacities of 654 and 628 spectators, four seminar rooms, a theater hall, eight workshop rooms, and an exhibition gallery for up to 800 guests), and conference halls located in various faculties and schools. Additional activities include excursions to historical and tourist sites, as well as social events organized at the beginning of the academic year and on weekends. An Art Gallery, established in March 1997, provides space for exhibitions, while Art Studios offer fine arts courses for students. The university also supports 45 student clubs, covering diverse areas of interest. These clubs operate under the coordination of the General Directorate of Health, Culture, and Sports. One of the university's most notable events is the annual Sports and Arts Festival held in May. The festival includes concerts, sports games, film and theater presentations, sales and promotional stands, conferences, symposia, scientific meetings, fashion shows, and competitions. Student groups from other Turkish universities and international institutions also participate in the festival. The university provides a students' camp in Özdere with a capacity of 200 beds, available during 10 periods in the summer vacation for use by students, academic staff, and administrative personnel. Additionally, new private on-campus dormitories with a capacity of 2,000 students have been completed, enhancing the university's accommodation options.
